What are the causes of poverty?

Loss of natural resources or poor management of them. Robs people of the resources necesary to provide for themselves.

Loss of ambition. This one can be exacerbated by government hand-outs.

Loss of opportunity. Without an opportunity, there's nothing.

Poor attitudes. If a person's atitude is wrong, they can't/won't see many opportunities. Even lack of education can be overcome- with the right attitude education opportunities can be found.

Government policies. One example- communism robs people of the motivation to work. If I know that I will be paid next-to-nothing whether I work hard or do little... why should I work at all?

Too much conflict going on on the government, and they aren't helping at all.

Overpopulation ... producing more offspring than can be supported by the region you live in. It happens with all animals at times, we are no different, we are just appalled by what it causes.

You must define poverty. American poor would be considered middle class in most of the world. Our poor have food, housing, transportation, heat, a/c, education, and best of all - freedom. That freedom includes the ability to not be poor.

Being under educated. Getting caught in the same cycle as your folks. It is a vicious circle and hard to get out of.

Generation after generation not being able to afford a good education. This starts in the neighborhoods they grow up in. Only the very strong minded can raise above this. The cycle of poverty cannont be broken. The entire economic structure would co-lapse. Its so sad but true.
