I have a squirrel problem because they keep chewing hole in my trash cans. How can i get rid of them?

I have a squirrel problem, they are chewing holes in my trash cans to get food. Metal cans are to small, and i want them out of my hair. How can i get rid of them? Also is Shooting they with an pellet gun or BB Gun Legal?

spray some Tabasco sauce on the cans around the areas where they chew. their burning mouths will tell them that these caned are dangerous and those pests will go away. or you could build a fence around these cans. Don't shoot the squirrels though cause they are natures goodness. Oh, spray ammonia around the can area also. The scent deters them as like a cat or dog marking territory.

you could leave your cans in the (garage ,shed )and then when its trash day put them out then put them back in. that could solve your problem. I was thinking of metal but you say they are too small. so i would say keep your trashcans inside then take them out when its trash day. and look at your local laws about shooting animals with bb guns.

My solution is tried and tested....the best way to stop a squirrel from chewing a hole in your trash can is to first confront the squirrel....this can be done by pulling it's tale very hard and tapping it on the nose.

Then in no-uncertain terms..you need to tell the squirrel that if it continues to chew on your trash can you will be forced to put out an empty trash can with a live trap in it and catch it and then perform the water worthiness test!

This intervention method also works well for squirrels that have a drink or drug problem. The trick is getting it right...pulling the tail first then tapping the nose...vs. tapping the tale and pulling the nose....which generally causes the squirrel to get very angry!
