Well exactly. Why else would people bother, they beleive it all because they want to, its self-delusion. Religion is all cozy and warm for them and means they dont have to start asking hard questions about life. Its all there ready in a book. How pathetic is that?

its all about freedom of choice. your culture, parential influence and life situations make up your belief system. if you believe in yourself that's fine. if you believe in God or any higher power that is fine too. unfortunately, no one has come back from the dead to explain it to any of us so no one can judge the other.

.no, never, there is a part in each human being which is not Been operated in ordinary way. But all can not feel it. But some feel it and Try to connect to it. and through religion they get a glimpse of it. So They follow it. But if they follow religion out of weakness then also if they are sincere thy can be connected to their hidden part, that can be named as their soul. With or without religion man can be very weak.

I believe the quote was "Opiate of the masses" according to Karl Marx.

Now what do I believe about it.

ANYTHING can be a crutch of a weak mind. Hell, they don't think about who they voter for, or why, they look for a name they know. Schwartzenbubber for example.

They look for slogans, not thoughts. "One day at a time".

    Anything to simplify reality.

So, does the concept of God simplify reality.

Yeah, it does. Throw a vigin in the volcano to placate the volcano God. Well, if it wants to blow up, it will, throwing a virgin in it will not stop it, but it feels like you have done something.

Now to the other end of this. Organized religion, where you get somebody else to speak to God for you is a crutch.

If you speak to God yourself, there is no crutch.

If you put somebody between you and God, you have a crutch.

If you reach out yourself to touch it, you do not have a weak mind.

God indeed exists. Reach out and find it. And don't let anybody else tell you how to do that.

    not necessarily weak...
some are conditioned, some are called, some are comfortable, some simply choose not to question.

christ warned against the overly religious behaviors of the sadducee's and pharisees of his time, he encouraged the quest for spirituality, not for religious activities, when encouraged a personal relationship with the creator.

    i believe some are involved in a religious group because of the need to be in power {perhaps compensation for feeling weak..?}
    still...
it is not our place to assume all of the millions involved in one religious group or another, are weak.

we should try not to generalize...only enlighten,
help them question their motives for their behaviors...

Yes. Maybe not a weak mind but maybe more a scared mind. With all due respect to people's beliefs religion is a crutch. It's not being hateful or cruel to say so. It's easy and comfy and cozy to believe something that was told to you and never question anything in life. You close your mind and go to sleep and never have to ask hard questions or---even more scary---face reality without blinders on. Believing something doesn't make it true but it does give a false sense of security---and who can blame someone for wanting to know that some big daddy in the sky is looking out for them if they believe a certain way? Life is uncertain and very terrifying sometimes. There is no substitute for asking questions and having an open mind and self-knowledge.

I assume you are referring to Christianity as the "crutch for the weak mind." Actually, very brilliant people such as Copernicus, Galileo, and Bacon were strong Christians, and I do not believe that they were weak-minded. In addition, J.S. Bach, Handel, Dostoyevksy, Chaucer, Milton, and C.S. Lewis were professed Christians. I hope that helps to answer your question.

Religion can be a crutch for the weak mind, the same as government or any other orginization. For most people though it is not. If you look at many of the greatest people to ever have lived, the greatest politicians, inventors, scientists etc have come from a religious background. I work in the Biology Department at a large university, and the majority of scientists I work with are believers. They are leading scientists in their fields, and do not have weak minds.

it can be, but so can any belief system. as with everything in this world, religion has 2 sides. it has good intentions- and is deeply flawed, mis-used and abused.

most people want to be told what to do, what to believe, because thy are either too frightened, or too lazy to take on the responsibility of being a creative being in charge of their own lives.

i believe we are all creating our own individual experiences, and co-creating together, with all beings, the state of the world today. some religions, and othr belief systems take away this huge responsibility and put it into the hands of some omnicient being outside of our reality- so they have an excuse not to think, and to not be at cause. they leave the control and power up to few, being lead like cattle. this could be seen as a weak mind being controlled by stronger minds. however i bet they would disagree with you. they would say that faith in something you can't see or prove- is the stronger minded way, and to them it would be their experience.

    it's all perspective.

i believe that there is a God- but it is much more than what our religions try to tell us, that there is no one true religion, they are all different signposts pointing towards something that is so huge it can't be defined from one limited perspective. i believe that science is one way of describing the Divine, and that spirituality and science can coexist. quantum physics- you are a creator.

For some people is rather a help, kmowing that God is with you. Some people are not ( or were not ) weak of mind.
Consider that first Christians, who died in groups because of their belief and suffered horrible tortures.
Consider Saint Joan of Arc, Saint Francis Xavier, Saint Francis of Asisi, Saint Maximilian Kolbe, Saint Philip of Jesus, Saint Thomas de Aquinas, and many more. None of them were weak of mind.

I support the opinion of Granny. Quote : "Well,my friend I'm glad I have a weak mind".
Humans need to believe in something. SOmething which is better, smarter, more beautifull and pure than them.
Do not forget that the noone can say when the religion was created and by whom; It has always been a support and a strong shoulder for so many people. It doesn't mean weak-minded people.

I'm not like a fanatic...but i have my beliefs and I felt weaker without it...so maybe it is. Sooo...what's your point? People that are not religious are stronger? Maybe that's your crutch...meaning to make yourself feel more stronger or superior...and I agree with Trey...Spirituality and Religion are two very different things.

The gospel is hid to those who are lost, for Satan, the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ should shine unto them (2 Cor.4:3-4).

To the Jews, preaching Christ crucified is a stumblingblock and to the Greeks (Gentiles) foolishness, but to them which are CALLED (the church of God -1 Cor.10:32) Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God (1 Cor.1:23-24).

I think religion and God simply exist to make us feel less insignificant, less scared of ourselves or our crazy lives, they're here to explain those things that otherwise would unable to be explained in a rational way. How do you explain the way life started, there's no real physical hard proof so what do we do, we throw God in the equation and no matter how unlogical or how inconsitent with reality this reason is, we simply accept it because God is said to be involved, God simply said that's how it should be or that's how it is.
