What is the best flea collar?

Question

I don't want to use Hartz because it was said to be dangerous. The only thing I can find now is Adams and Zodiac. I don't live in an area with many ticks....just fleas.

Medicine like Advantix or Frontline work better than collars, I don't know exactly what they do but my dog had fleas and I put that stuff on her. The next day, very next, she had no fleas on her and I found some on her sleeping area and they were dead! They never came back, either. I kept putting it on her every few months.

i never have liked flea collars, try going to your vet and asking if they could give your pet a flea bath or a tick bath, it worked great on my dog and ive never seen any fleas or ticks since i did it almost 6 years ago

If you have issues with fleas I would get your cat on advantage. The collars don't really do much but keep them away from the neck area. If you put your cat on advantage it protects the whole cat not just the neck area.

We (where I work) don't reccommend flea collars. Use topical flea preventative like Advantagebut as you said not Hartz-it's dangerous

I use the Frontline Spot Treatment. Works better than any collar. If you use the Frontline Plus it kills the fleas and eggs. It works up to three months. I do my cats and dogs once every three months and never have any problems. If you hunt around online you can get it cheaper than at the vet, pet store, or feed store.

Go to the vet I prefer pills or flea drops for the pet results ask for advantage plus it protects against ticks with diseases, mosquitoes, and fleas I volunteer at a veterinarian shelter it's what the best right now and completely safe.

i haven't had any luck with flea collars so i just use a mixture of vinegar and water.i spray that on my chahuahua before i take him out doors.

None. Flea collars just aren't effective. If you live in the US, get some drops you put on once a month, make sure they are for fleas AND larvae/eggs. I have lots of cats and use this stuff year round. My dogs get theirs included with their once a month heartworm treatment. Not one flea in my house.

flea collars dont work. fleas have become immune to the stuff they use on them so they are innefective. get drops from your vet instead

Any of the topical flea treatments from your vet should work and I’ve heard the Revolution pill works very well but haven’t tried it. Do not buy the "over the counter" flea treatments - such as in the pet section of Walmart or the grocery store for instance, as they do not work and may be more dangerous for your cat. Flea collars do not work. A very good source for the good treatments such as Frontline, Advantage, Revolution, and Advocate is Ebay. I've found it to be much cheaper than the vet.

A note about flea tolerance to poison....people are noticing that American fleas are becoming tolerant to Frontline. Advantage brand, however, uses a poison that was unknown in America 10 years ago. Therefore, if you notice live fleas after one treatment of Frontline, switch to Advantage. Advantage is also cheaper than Frontline.

The only flea collar that works is Preventic and it has to be purchased from a vet office. The only topical that works is Frontline Plus and that also has to be purchased from a vet office.

Go to your Vet and get frontline. It's not expensive, there is no collar, one application! It's medicing that you put on the skin once, it then enters the bloodline and kills fleas!

Flea collars don't really work all that well ( but I don't know anything about Harts being dangerous, just ineffective). A product like Frontline that actually absorbs into the skin is very effective.

Flea collars can cause reactions leading to infections, and they're only effective against fleas around the neck. Use a topical product such as Advantage or Frontline. I can't believe they still make flea collars

Don't try a flea collar,my friend bought her dog one and it killed her! Just take her/him to the Vet and let her get "flea dipped".

Stay far far away from flea collars.... I got one for my German Shepherd puppy a few years ago and it killed him in 24 hours!

I would suggest that you just buy a flea comb and brush your dog daily to get rid of any fleas and maybe try some natural flea repellants.... like Black Walnut Hull extract, Tea Tree oil or brush diatomaceous earth into your dog's coat and sprinkle some on his bedding.

If fleas are still a real problem, K9Advantix is a great treatment that you just apply a few drops once a month to his back.

I would try as many non-pesticide treatments as possible, though if I were you. I don't feel comfortable putting chemical insecticides on my pet.

do not use flea collars! i repeat, do not use flea collars! it is like throwing you money in the trash can. they do not work. go to your veterinarian and get your pet on advantage or frontline flea control drops.

Flea collars only work about 50% the best flea control is advatage or frontline it's a liquid that you put on their back and it works for a full month. You can get it from a vet.

Flea collars are not very effective. We used to use them for our dog, but then the collars get wet and they are not effective any more, plus they are only effective for a certain number of month I believe. If you can go to a PetsMart, get some Frontline or Frontline spray. Adams is also good. It comes in a powder or a spray. I used Adams on Lady and it always killed her fleas. Besides using the Adams flea spray, I used some very good flea shampoo that Daddy bought for her that was made by Sergent's. This is really good shampoo to kill the fleas and it smells nice too. It's not expensive either.

ALL flea collars are bad - you should use Advantage or Revolution instead - or flea bath, or regular brushing with flea comb - vaccumm often and keep pet indoors more or out of areas with lots of other animals (eg parks)

Flea collars have always made my dogs sick, so I use Revolution. It defends against fleas,ticks, ear mites, mange mites, and prevents heartworm and lyme disease.
It is just the liquid spot-on-skin application.
You vet will carry it
