What is the most fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly car next to the hybrid?

Unfortunately, hybrid cars are not yet available here in the Philippines. I would like to purchase a reasonably priced car from either Toyota, Kia, Honda, Mitsubishi or Suzuki. Details like the mpg (miles per gallon) of a suggested car would be appreciated.

Or the Honda Fit. They may have different names in the Philippines, as both manufacturers often rename vehicles for sales in the USA. Stay away from Kia, Hyundai and Mitsu as they never seem to get the advertised mileage. Suzuki would be a good choice if you can't find a Toyota or Honda, as long as they market the Swift there. The other Suzuki's such as the Reno and Aerio get poor mileage.

Try Toyota. Their cars usually are usually all above 30mpg.

The Honda Civic or Honda Fit. They may be called different names in your country, but Honda produces very efficient, very reliable cars that handle better and are more sporty than Toyotas. Good Luck.

I'm itching to own a hybrid car...however, there's not much we could do now - unless you decide to ship/import your own dream hybrid car here, which would be alot more expensive...

Fuel economy? The newly launched 2006 Honda Civic in the Philippines leanly fits the bill.

Truly amazing: EPA figures are 30 MPG city/38 MPG highway (!) for the manual transmission, 30 city/40 highway (!!) for the automatic.

Honda Civic .... Close to a Hybrid but much more power and cheaper to maintain than a hybrid.
