Why are principals hated?

Probably for the same reason cops might be hated. They are the ones you get sent to when you break the law at school. Not an easy job, being the disciplinarian. Teachers are hired to teach, and have to send kids to the principal for discipline. Principals have to track down truant kids and deal with parents. They have to deal with all the complaints. They have a difficult job.

Not all principals are hated though. When I was a teen, I had one who was female, friendly, interesting and very personable. I recall talking with her often, as she hung out during lunchtime in the cafeteria. This same school had a line of boys, most days, waiting to visit with the principal (and vice principal). I'm sure those kids feared her, but I thought she was nice.

I have worked at various schools, and many times I have seen very friendly principals, visiting with kids and getting hugs too! Then again, I've encountered those who are stand-off-ish and always frowning and seem unapprochable.

Because they have the power and authority over the school in the place of the Board of Education.

They are the enforcers. Also, certain principals can be less than understanding and that worsens their reputation.

They have to be the final voice of authority...the one who provides ultimate consequences for negative behavior, the one who has to say "no." While they do many positive things (hopefully) for their school, those things tend to not be as visible... people don't notice when things are going right in their lives.

Because kids are still learning their boundaries with authority. And, of course, he is an authoritative figure. Plain and simple.....

People have no respect for authority figures; Be it a principal, policeman, pastor, parent. People are basically selfish and don't like being told what to do. Sad commentary, isn't it?

ppl fear authority. and it's also perceived that you cannot fight against authority, so you feel disadvantage and therefore resentful of the authority figure.

as you grow up, you can look back on your principal and think, wtf? he was just a normal guy like me, maybe less brutal than i'd be...

it's all a matter of perception. as a child, you look up, as an adult, you look down.

They are like teachers but moreso as they are usually more distant from the kids and are usually are responsible for dealing with the most extreme kids. They also "make the rules" like no running in school and no gum - sensible rules which some kids find draconic for some unknown reason.

the role of the principal is to monitor how the students are being mold....so students think that she / he is not on their side but actually they are just concern with you dtudents

Most often because children are rebellious and they see the principal as just another authority figure who wants to make them obey rules that they don't want to. They lack the maturity to understand the responsibility a principal has to maintain an orderly environment and to help them to overcome the natural desire to want to "do their own thing" instead of applying themselves to getting an education.
