Why do garbage men make more money than teachers?

That is an excellent question. Teachers are off during the summer, but they are also only paid for nine months of work not twelve as many people think. Don't forget that it is the teacher who teaches the garbage man to read and write so that he is able to obtain the job, it also the teacher that teaches the doctor, laywer and all other professions. Please give credit where credit is due

Would YOU want to spend your whole day covered in garbage? And they work all June, July and August, too, while teachers are on vacation.

Why do teachers make more money then the Military ? Why do actors make more money then Doctors ? The world is a little backwards that's all ! Not much we can do about it !

Supply and demand, everybody wants to be a teacher, no one grows up thinking ,"Hey, I want to be a garbage man when I grow up."

They make our environment a bit more clean, and the work is often dirty. Just like teacher's but those who teach risk to produce so much mental trash...
besides, the amount of money both categories make varies, it depends on so many things.

Kickass skater, please cite your source. I find that number very hard to believe. That sounds more like the top salary, though it could possibly be the average salary of all teachers, but I do not believe it is the average STARTING salary as you claim it is. That would put top pay at about $100,000 and as far as my sources go, there is no place in the US where teachers are approaching 6 digits.

Also, can you provide the amount that garbage men make in PA? Your point would be more effective if we could compare the two salaries.

While teachers are on vacation during the summer, don't think it is a paid vacation. The reason teaching is THE lowest paid profession is because we are not paid for vacation. Is it our fault that we aren't provided work in the summers?

As for "everybody wants to be a teacher", read the news, there is a massive teacher shortage across the US. In Maryland, some school districts recruit teachers from the Philipines because there aren't enough teachers to fill all the posts. That's because teaching is an under-appreciated, under-respected, under-paid profession.
