What kind of shingles were used for siding on houses in the 1940's?

Additional Details

Are these shingles called Johns Mansfield? If they are made of asbestos, what % is asbestos? Are they dangerous to have on the house?

Cedar Shakes,OR,,, Asbestos based, often grooved, straight or wavey lines, Most often in 40's construction, nation wide.
