Levothyroxine Overdose?

Can anything really happen if I may have doubled my dose? (i am on a TON of pills for different things and can't remember what i took) The prescribed amount is .20 mg. I don't feel weird or anything, I was just wondering if anyone knew if this was something to be concerned about. (I have called health professionals but I cannot drive to a hospital to get checked out as I live alone and cannot drive because I also took my sleeping pills etc....)

I am a nurse, and I don't think it will really hurt you. There are stonger doses of that, so other people take higher doses and have no problems. I would see how you feel before going to sleep, and if you feel dizzy or faint then maybe either call a friend to go to the ER, or call 911.
I think it may just make you more tired if anything. Tomorrow i would take only 1/2 a pill just to try to regulate your body. I hope this helped, and I hope you are ok.
Good Luck!

Thanks Meg. And just for the record, I do understand that this isn't a forum of reliable medical advise. I didn't think that a thyroid pill would do much, especially such a low dosage. If matters would have gotten worse, I would have called 911. Thanks for the concern.
Levothyroxine is considered in a weekly dose. No, dont it take it all in one day. Levothyroxine has a 24 to 48 hour halflife. Just skip your next dose, in view of the weekly dose. You will have no doubt if you have overdosed by expressed symptoms. I personaly take .375mg daily.

Common affects of overdosage are: Thyrotoxicosis - anxiety and irritability, insomnia, heat intolerance, fever, weight loss despite an increased appetite, muscular weakness, palpitations, amenorrhea or erectile dysfunction, and hyperdefecation. In the elderly, high-output congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, or depression may be presenting symptoms. Signs of thyrotoxicosis include tachycardia, systolic hypertension, tremor, diaphoresis, fevers, cardiac murmurs, powerful pulses, exaggerated deep tendon reflexes, lid lag, goiter, and in Graves' disease, protrusion of the eyes (exophthalmos).

In any case, see a doctor!

There are people who have to take twice as much of that drug as you per prescription. If you think you have overdosed, however, do not take anybody's advice. Call an ambulance. You either need to be notating your meds as you take them (on the calendar maybe) or you need someone to take care of you. A person who is unable to remember their medication usages is not competent.

im not a doctor, and this is in no way a definite answer, and if you feel weird or anything you should call, but i would say that youre probably fine. thats thyroid medicine, right? i was a pharmacy technician, and i think thats generic synthroid if i remember correctly. .2mg isnt a high dose, and even tho its what you normally take, over double that is what some people take on a regular basis-- so its not a toxic level to have ingested or anything. dont make a habit of it, and like i said if you start to have problems do call for help, but you should be fine.

    Symptoms of overstimulation:
Abdominal cramps, anxiety, changes in appetite, change in menstrual periods, chest pain, diarrhea, emotional instability, fatigue, fever, flushing, hair loss, headache, heart attack or failure, heat intolerance, hyperactivity, increased heart rate, irregular heartbeat, irritability, muscle weakness, nausea, nervousness, palpitations, shortness of breath, sleeplessness, sweating, tremors, vomiting, weight loss

    Overdosage
An overdose of Synthroid can produce the same symptoms of overstimulation listed under "Synthroid side effects" Confusion and disorientation are also possible, and there have been reports of stroke, shock, coma, and death. If you suspect a massive overdose, seek emergency medical attention immediately.

Either call an ambulance or call a friend or family member to take you to be checked.

If you only doubled your dose for one day I don't think you'll have any adverse affect. However, if you've been doing it for several days, you should check with a doctor. It actually takes several weeks for an increased dose to have any effect.
