Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Step 1: Subtract 9 from both sides to get -4x alone.
9 - 4x = 57
9 - 9 - 4x = 57 - 9
-4x = 48

Step 2: Divide both sides by -4 to get x alone.
-4x = 48
-4x/-4 = 48/-4
x = -12

Check:
9 - 4(-12) = 57
9 + 48 = 57
57 = 57
