What do you put in your kid's Easter basket?

I'm just wondering what other parents put in their kid's basket for Easter morning. Do you buy one of those pre-made baskets or make your own? Do you stay away from candy, or load up on it? I'd like to do something different this year, and try to stay away from all the junk candy that we end up throwing away.

Additional Details

To Gordanfan2: if a child is old enough to read and understand this question, then the child probably already knows about the truth! Don't you think? I'm more worried about all the ADULT content questions that the kids could be reading, not this one. Sorry, I'm not going to delete it.

I usually make a basket. When he was little I'd put in candies, but I'd try to not have just a bunch of chocolate candy. Then I'd add in little toys like bubbles, sidewalk chalk or the little toys from the dollar store. Those are good fillers. But since he's older now and doesn't believe in the bunny anymore I can do whatever. I put in candy but I also add in sugar free gum, jerky sticks and I get some sort of outside toy like a kite, or a movie he wants. Girls would like little lip glosses, cute note pads and pens, hair accessories....

My son is only 2. I do my own basket with a couple little toys and a book. My son loves apples, grapes, and strawberries, so I will put some fruit that he likes in the basket. I try to keep my son away from the candy. He would rather have fruit than candy anyway. I go with what he likes.

When my kids were little, i purchased pretty wicker baskets for them. A few days before Easter, we'd get the baskets out, and fill them with the cellophane grass.

On Saturday we'd boil eggs and then color and decorate them, and place them in the baskets.

Then, on Easter Morning, the kids would wake up and realize the Easter Bunny had been there over night!!!!! That bunny would take the colored eggs out of their baskets and put them on a plate on the table, and then replace them with jelly beans and chocolate candies and a large chocolate rabbit and some Peeps and even a small present or two ... It was kind of like Christmas to them. One year that rabbit even brought my daughter a pair of Jeans that she saw at the Mall but Mom just couldn't afford them at the time ... Santa does that a lot, too ... I love Santa and the Easter Bunny! and tooth fairy ...

We make our own baskets and try to do something differnt every year. We have some traditions though. I usually do not put candy in the basket except for a small hollow chocolate or white chocolate bunny. Usually spring time toys for outside play since easter is the beginning of spring. Things like bubbles, sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, my sons get match box cars sometimes the "baskets" are pails with shovels. We live in the south so there is no snow or cruddy sidewalks here but usually the easter bunny leaves his foot prints on our sidewalk leading to the front door(sidewalk chalk is good for mom too). My oldest daughter is now 16 so she helps with the younger ones but we fill the plastic hollow eggs with a few M&M's or maybe some hair bows for the girls or some pennies for their piggy bank, and we hide them around the yard or in the house if it's rainy outside. the obvious ones are for the babies and the high or really hidden ones are for the big kids.

I actually make a treasure hunt type of game. Leave them clues to where the prize is. My kids are 15 and 12 and they still love this. At this stage I do the chocolate bunny and then do CD's and jewerly or video games.

Depends on the age of your child.... My daughter is 3. Easter morning, she wakes up and follows little tufts of cotton (from the Easter Bunny's tail) along a path. I get the empty plastic colored eggs and put things like an easter shaped eraser, a couple of jelly beans, or a hershey kiss in each one. You can get different little things that are not candy and put them in there and scatter them along the path in the yard or in the house. She gets an empty easter basket and can collect what she finds.

For older kids, I do what I do for the Great Pumpkin at Halloween. After they get their masses of candy and goodies from you, grandparents, etc. , they have a choice to pick 5 pieces of candy and leave the rest on the dining room table in a bowl for the Easter Bunny (or Great Pumpkin). They include a letter describing their day, costume or whatever. Overnite, the Easter Bunny (or Great Pumpkin) comes (much like Santa) and takes the offered candy and replaces it with a gift. It works like a charm - with minimal visits to the dentist and the kids aren't on a sugar high for the rest of the month!
