What's the best advice you've ever been given on raising a child?

LOVE...LOVE...LOVE...LOVE...

Spend time with your child and he will know you love him. Money is not everything... We all know this is not an issue for you both. Money will not give your child what he needs the most.

He needs LOVE - This is only something that can come from your hearts. Always spend time with doing silly and seemingly meaningless things when he is a baby. Play games and be involved with playing ball or sports WITH him in his young years, Go to see him in school plays or if he is in sports. In general - all through his life be very involved. He will be so much better off for it.

My minister had a father who was very very busy with all kinds of work projects and he (to this day, after being over 55 years old) still uses his younger years as an example of how we wishes so much that his dad could have played ball with him and just spent time with him that seemed to be unimportant at the time.

Time is probably one of the most precious commodities we have on this earth. We can use all our time to make money - or we can forgo on some things and invest our time in raising up well adjusted and LOVED individuals. Investing time in our family is by far the much more valuable and wise investment.

although people are often well intentioned it is best to go with your own parental instincts...we all have our own parenting style and a bunch of outside advice can overwhelm a new parent and make them second guess their abilties to raise their own child...

in other words i prefer the "mind your own damn business" approach...good intentioned advice is okay but only when warranted or asked for...plus advice is better taken when it is not overbearingly volunteered...

"You will never be too prepared for a child." I have found this to be true. I saved money, planned, bought things ahead of time. It's so different than what my "planning" brought me to believe. Just enjoy the time you have and don't sweat the small stuff. They will fall, but they will get back up. You will forget to prepare a bottle before you go to bed, but it will all work out in the end. Congrats.

By the way, I'm an Accounting Major in search for a new job....Hire me!!! lol

Oh and also, if you ever buy him anything, or if anyone ever gives him anything or does anything for him, ALWAYS make him say thank you, he'll be a polite person through out life

when a child is born he need to be feed and clean and most important he needs a lots of love, love is the main ingredients. as the child it growing his necessities may change but the main ingredient will stay. Love

The best advice I ever received was : Nap when they nap ~ don't try and be super-parent and get everything done when they are napping. That way you have lots of energy left for when they are awake and want to play and spend time together.

Enjoy every day as a treasure because you can never get it back and they grow up so fast! [Yikes, my son will be 6 next week, where does the time go]

And the best advice I can give is take lots and lots of pictures, don't worry about putting them in albums or scrapbooks ~ you can always do that later ~ just take the pictures ~ because you can't get back those cute smiles and silly moments.

Also keep a running journal of all the cute things they say ~ they will find it amusing when they are older. For example ~ my daugther calls "Mushrooms" ~ tobaggons. Have not idea why, but that is what she calls them. [You might forget those little things later when you are telling your children stories about when they were small.

Cherish the smiles and acknowledge the tears and if needed give extra band-aids to make them smile again. :)

Children see and hear everything you do, so my best advise is to never argue in front of children but if its unavoidable as it sometimes is, make sure that your child sees how to have a disagreement fairly and make sure they see you hug and kiss and make up. Also, saying that you are sorry when you are wrong is great for them to hear.

The best advice I was given was by my mother-in-law. She is the mother of 12 children. ...She said no two children are a like. What works for one may not work for the other. Treat them as individuals. We are not all the same... so why should they be.

But, we answer them as best as we can. The best advice comes from the heart. Money isn't everything when it comes to children. It is love, compassion, caring, and understanding that children need in their young lives. The advice I recived is to love your child as best as you can and to take care of him. Answer any questions they ask and to just listen to them.

Read the book "Bringing up Boys" by Dr. James Dobson.
It gives great advice on how to handle many situations.
I found it to be very helpful. Oh and take a lot of pictures! They will be so big before you know it! Congratulations!

Must have patience. My daughters test the limits everyday. It drives me crazy, but then they laugh or say something outrageous and it reminds me of why I wanted them so much in the first place. My mom taught me this. I tested her so many times threw the years. She was a wonderful mother. God bless her. Congrats!!!!!!!

The best advice that I ever received was advice that I asked for... I have read the other posts on this page and think that you are getting some good answers.I think that you have done a great job raising your other children, and I have no doubt that you will find great joy with your new son

Do not be too busy with the "rest of your life" that you miss your kids' truly wonderful moments. Always make time to listen to them, stop what you are doing and give them your undivided attention. They will always look to you as a role model - even when you are not being a good one.
