Why do people consistantly use profanity on a website like this where young kids can see it?

because those people really don't care and don't think. some of the people who use profanity on the website don't really care and give a crap. oops, i sorta cussed...

Absolutely. These people shame their friends, their parents, their religion, by using profanity. They just have no consideration.

This is not a site for kids. If you can not tell that. People ask questions thinkin we are all adults. Would you want your kid on this website i know i sure would not.

Just because someone uses profanity, it doesn't make them dumb. I know people with doctorate degrees that swear! There's nothing wrong with it, unless of course you do use it on a website like this where little kids can see it. But then again times change... if an 8 year old can have a cell phone, then why can't he be on a website where people occasionally swear?

Because they're idiots, and most likely kids themselves. Many of these people can't spell the simplest words, and constantly use "your" and "there" incorrectly.

It is frustrating. You're not alone. Swearing makes people sound ignorant. It's not cute, funny or appropriate except in the rarest of situations.

I think so many use it now because it seems to have become "acceptable"... it's so commonplace that people have learned to just look past it. I tend to report it when it's excessive or racist... just click on that little "report abuse" button... it only takes about 30 seconds to do it.. and I'm hoping that if enough people make use of that feature, it will start to have an effect on how people conduct themselves. But who am I kidding - the foul language is here stay, I'm afraid.

It is free speech.
Only the parent can keep someone under age off an open forum.
It is sad we do not have more respect for each other than to use vulgarity but it is an open forum.

Some people choose to live their lives in a child-safe world and some do not. The internet is a place where those worlds meet, and you need to accept that. If your children really are so young that they cannot handle certain language then you should be with them at the computer anyway, because there are far FAR worse things they will see if you don't watch. Letting children loose on the internet without supervision is like sending them to play at the park in the red light district by themselves.

I'm an adult and choose not to restrict what I say in that way. I don't do it to feel big or cool (I'm WELL past that); It's simply the context I set for my conversations. I'm sure it's similar for most of the people who say things you find offensive.

It's probably the young kids posting the profanity. I turn in everyone I can for abuse. Sometimes spending more time doing that than answering questions. We should all start doing this every day.

the computer ,the experts say, belongs in the main room of the house so parents can keep an eye on their kids who are on the computer (internet). if the parents are doing their job there shouldn't be a problem, now should there?
i think it's offensive to let children on the computer with no supervision. that to me is profane. where are the PARENTS who should be raising these children?
