How can anybody know for sure? I can't even tell if *you* are a virgin, let alone someone who lived hundreds of years ago.

No one will ever know for certain, the fact that she travelled with men suggests she may not have been a virgin.

As the legend goes, she was. But as with so many of the saints, all the information that we have about her is "hero myth" ... things blown all out of proportion by the time they were written down.

Judging by her piety and the era she grew up in, I'd say it's very likely that Joan maintained religious celibacy. But then, she was a prisoner of war, and a woman, and there is a real possibility that her virginity was taken during the imprisonment.
