When this generation of humans refers to old people, we are talking about people from the age of 55+ in my opinion. 30 years ago, when some of those "Old People" were in their early 20's and 30's, computers wern't even around. They were just a dream. When computers did start arising, very late 70's, early 80's, these people said things like "This will never catch on" or "Im not wasting my time to learn a FAD when the world will never go electronic."
Then when the internet came up, heh, I actually knew someone who said "The Internet? That will never catch on." And look at us now. Blogging and myspacing. Listening to music and emailing video. These "Old People" never thought that this kind of thing would ever be possible, so they never learned. They were adverse to the change that was inevitable. They thought that if they ignored it, it would go away. Their being stubborn. Some of them are even afraid to learn. The computer industry causes them anxiety because their whole way of life, (i.e. communication) has changed from speakin on the phone and sending nice hand written letters through the mail to typing on a keyboard and pressin the send button.
But like all sterotypes, this one does not apply to all old people. Many older people are very intellegent (In no way am i saying that people who dont use the computer arn't intellegent) and have picked up on the computer and internet very quickly, and love it. They enjoy playing scrabble, speaking to other older people, etc.
I hate to say this, but our generation will be this way some day. Afraid of something. Perhaps with something like Genitics. Our grand children will ask us why we won't allow the doctors to grow us a new heart so we'll live longer, or something else.
