if you want to make an omelette, you have to start by breaking a few eggs.

Write a song. (ok, it's not always a pre-requisite, but it might help)

You could write the best song in the world, but that would not automatically make you famous. It seems that the key to fame is shameless self-promotion. Do every gig/interview/book signing that is available.

You won't get famous sitting here doing this.

Oh, and one last thing: The longest journey always starts with a tiny step. Write a song. Go on, it's a wonderful feeling.

Perform and/or write your music on a daily basis. Look for open mic nights at clubs, or if you are under age - offer to perform at hospitals or places where kids cannot easily get to a concert.

If you know you are good, then do it. Believe it or not, the Grateful Dead played in parks for free for years. I remember - and I'm not that brain dead from being an old hippie.

Just get out there and do what you love to do - keep it fresh and keep enjoying it and others will, too.

A little bit of practice each day is better than one long session once a week.

Open a 360 page put all you songs on it for us to hear. Alternately bed someone half famous turn them and yourself into a junkie on the cusp of death. Punch small people who you pay to take photographs of you. Say something original about drugs like they are good and they do work. Find someone who works with real rock stars such as Simon Cowell.
