Every baseball player looks forward to Opening Day, and this year will mark my 12th one at the major league level. I began my professional baseball career when I was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 1992. I spent six great years in Kansas City, setting career highs in almost every offensive category in my final year in a Royals uniform, but was traded to the Oakland A's for the 2001 season. After one season in Oakland, I signed a free agent contract with the Boston Red Sox. While many people may remember me for my long hair during my time in Boston, my greatest memory was winning the World Series in 2004. That World Series victory ended an 86 year drought for Boston. After four years in Boston, I became a New York Yankee in 2006, with just one goal - to help bring another World Series crown to the famed Yankees organization.
When I'm not playing baseball, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Michelle, and my three children, Madelyn, Jackson, and Devon Rose.
